Your heart is racing as you feel the hard beaks come crushing down on your skull relentlessly accurate, no matter what direction you turn a beak comes thundering down on your face followed by another that seems even more accurate. Their large and powerful wings flapping blowing dried chicken shit in your nose and mouth as you gasp for air from exhaustion. A crushing blow lands firmly on the top of your scull, vision gets dizzy, I am a fox being killed my chickens.

Like sprinklers hidden beneath the surface, a series of geysers — more than previously thought — are gushing water ice from fissures near the south pole of Saturn's icy moon Enceladus, new images reveal. 

The new images were taken during Cassini's flyby on Nov. 21, 2009, and include the best 3-D look ever obtained of a "tiger stripe" — a fissure that sprays icy particles, water vapor and organic compounds. They also show regions of Enceladus that were not well-mapped in previous flybys, including a southern area with crudely circular tectonic patterns.

Both large and small plumes were seen spouting from these famed tigers stripes along Enceladus' south pole. In one mosaic, created by two high-resolution images captured by the narrow-angle camera, 30 individual jets can be seen. More than 20 of them had not been identified before.

Some designs are so fundamentally perfect. The wheel probably sits right at the top of that list, to the point where the expression 'reinventing the wheel' is used to describe this type of attempt at improving perfection.

That's not enough to deter a dedicated group of Yale mechanical engineering students, who figured it might be fun to build a bike with a spokeless rear wheel. As you can see, the rear hub is held in place four rollers at the top, along with the drive cog which meshes with a planetary gear on the rim. I am guessing the only real evolution here is it looks cooler than before. When are we going to think of something better than the chain though?

The European Southern Observatory’s new VISTA telescope’s enormous field of view allows it to image the entire nebula at once.

The Orion Nebula is located about 1,350 light-years from Earth. The cloud of gas and dust is a nursery for young stars. The red blobs in the features near the center of the image are young, growing stars that are hidden by dust in visible light.

The results of the weekend storm that buried many Eastern U.S. locations in 2 feet or more of snow stands out starkly in a new satellite image.

The image from space reveals how the storm swept through Washington, D.C. and Philadelphia but largely spared New York City. The landscape is fairly snow-free just north of Manhattan.
